Who says outer space can’t be adorable? I had way too much fun making this pun-filled “I Love You to the Moooon” card featuring a space-faring cow and a cheeky nod to the Milky Way. It’s the perfect card for anyone who loves a good pun, a little space adventure, and, let’s be honest, a cow in a helmet.

This card makes me smile every time I look at it, and it’s surprisingly easy to put together. If you’ve ever wondered how to combine clean design, playful stamping, and a bit of “udderly” charming humour, you’re in the right place.

Materials Used

How to Make This “I Love You to the Moooon” Card

  1. Create your card base:
We are creating an A7 card today, so we will start with a white piece of sturdy cardstock measuring 7×10 inches. On the long side, score and fold at the 5inch line to create a 5×7 inch card.
  2. Add the soft star background:
Place your star stencil in the centre of the card front. With light hands, blend pale blue ink through the stencil to create a dreamy, soft-focus star. The stencil I used included the negative piece, so I inked that. This is what gave the fine line on the outside of the star. If you have a star die, you can do the same by cutting out a piece of masking paper.
  3. Stamp your images:
On a piece of alcohol friend cardstock, stamp the Milk Way sign and Space cow with your alcohol friendly ink, if you plan to colour with alcohol markers.
  4. Colour the images:
Use your favourite markers or coloured pencils to colour in the sign and the cow. Have fun with the colours, this is space, after all! Fuzzy spots, pink cheeks, or even a blue cow? Why not?
  5. Fussy cut the images:
Carefully cut around your coloured images, leaving a small white border if you like that look.
  6. Stamp the sentiment:
On the card front, just below the star, stamp “I love you to the MOOOOON.”
  7. Assemble the card:
Glue down the Milk Way sign near the top of where your star is, and use foam adhesive to attach your space cow just above the sentiment and right in the centre of the star. This gives the card a bit of dimension and makes everything pop.
  8. Final touches:
Add any finishing touches you like a little clear sparkle on the star, or glossy accents on the cow’s helmet if you have it.

    Tip

If you don’t have a star stencil, just cut a star shape out of scrap paper and use it as a mask for your ink blending. DIY tricks save the day!
