Hello everyone! Here are my first 5 cards created from Simon Says Stamp September 2021 card kit.
Even though it is October, it is never too late to showcase the cards that I’ve created in previous month kits lol. I think this happened last year around this time where the kits arrive much later in the year. This does not stop me from having fun creating and that is exactly what I did!
The part I love most about Simon Says Stamp card kits is how it provides me with the chance to sit down and get creative. They will provide several different products in the kits that you can create cards, but for me, it encourages me to bring in different products and mediums. Many kits focus mostly on pattern paper, this card kit does include other goodies.
At first I was gripping about wanting an “Autumn” kit for September, I realized that sunflowers are perfect enough and feel bad :). To make it worse, I never ended up making 5 autumn cards, but 5 random all season cards. Go figure, sometimes I just like to complain apparently.
Card 1 – I miss you
My first card is a simple design, which is one of the hardest styles for me to create. Whenever I attempt to create a simple card I tend to keep adding. I stamped the single sunflower type flower on a piece of watercolour paper with the sentiment “I miss you” in jet black archival ink. The flower was coloured using Altenew watercolour brushes in the following colours:
Rubellite
Autumn Blaze
Moss
Limeade
Card 2 – Hello friend
My second card was a lot of fun to make and play around with. I started off by taking a piece of the green cardstock in the kit and distressing it with frayed burlap oxide ink. This created a dingy feel to the cardstock. Afterwards, I used strips of washi tape all over the card in different angles and not caring about where they end or if there are tears. I also went around the edges of the cardstock and wrinkled, warped and tore to give it an aged effect. To finish off this card, I cut a butterfly shape with my Cricut and glued it down along with the sentiment “Hello friend”. I love how this turned out, and always proud to try new styles of cards.
Card 3 – Happy birthday
Here is another attempt to a simple card by colouring 4 identical flowers but in different colours. Once again, I used Altenew watercolour brushes but more concentrated colours. I propped the flowers up using foam adhesive, stamped the sentiment “happy birthday” and then glued down the yellow banner and white leaves. Here is an example of where I try to go simple and keep adding to the card :-).
Card 4 – Happy birthday
My fourth card was going to stay black and white, but I remembered I had these cosmic shimmer powders in my stash that I never use and wanted to try painting with them. I added a bit of water to the shimmer powder and painted only the flowers in a yellow, light blue (by accident) and silver. What I wanted was for the shimmer to match the glitter washi tape that I placed along the edge of the card before glueing the front panel down. I actually forgot there was a die in this kit, and so I decided to turn this card into a birthday card by cutting the sentiment in black and silver cardstock.
Card 5 – Shine brightly
For my last card I used my Altenew watercolour brushes once more. I am really trying to get the hang of watercolour and I’m getting there! I am not really understanding the ratio of water to pigment and so I get these really unexpected results. The panel turned out so well that I glued it directly to the card base without a matte layer. I really enjoy the two types of sunflowers and then the crazy purple/green foliage. The sentiment I chose came from the sentiment sheet which says “Shine brightly”. So sweet, and cheerful.
