There’s something peaceful about this Craft Roulette 264 birthday card — like a twilight garden or the stillness after a spring rain. I created it for Craft Roulette Episode #264, and it ended up becoming one of my favourite soft-style designs. Dreamy purples, flowing ink, and a bold sentiment made this a relaxing card to put together — and one that feels personal without needing a lot of fuss.

How I made this Craft Roulette 264 birthday card:
- Start with the background
I used the ink-smooshing technique: press ink onto plastic, spray with water, and press your cardstock into the mixture. I did this a few times, drying between layers, to build up the watercolour texture. - Stamp the floral image
After everything dried, I stamped a floral silhouette with the Versafine Claire Fantasia ink. I used a stamping tool so I could double-stamp and get a deep, rich result. Once everything was completed, I trimmed down the panel to a square size. It doesn’t matter how large your square is, find the perfect size and adjust each layer accordingly. - Add a layered sentiment
Stamp your “Birthday Wishes” to white cardstock and cut it out. Elevate it with foam for subtle height and dimension. - Assemble the layers
I adhered the stamped panel to a piece of white cardstock that is slightly larger, then I matted this panel on lavender cardstock and mounted it onto a white card base. Super clean, but it lets the colours really shine. - Skip the embellishments
No gems, no glitter—just the soft movement of ink and the strength of a silhouette.
Tip for layered ink backgrounds:
Let each layer dry completely before adding more ink. It’s the best way to avoid murky colours and keep those light, airy blends.
This Craft Roulette 264 birthday card really came together without much overthinking. When the challenge gives you the right push, like a colour combo or element you might not normally grab, it’s kind of freeing, isn’t it?
Whether you’re gifting it right away or adding it to your stash, it’s a keeper.
